What a fabulous and addictive formative read I really don t know where to start on how to tell you why this book is so so great.I ve now read it twice in the past 9 days, I just haven t been able to put it down and have been reading it at every available opportunity even whilst cooking dinner and bathing the little one.From the genuine tone of the writer Ellie you re a star to just feeling a connection that takes away the fear of applying of a possible rejection Its got everything here that will help set me and you on the right path to a successful application.I ve previously applied to midwifery, so this will be my second cycle After reading the book and then rereading my previous personal statement, I do not blame the admissions tutors for a rejecting it It was horrendous as I fell into the parent trap and also didn t write about transferable skills in the way that they apply to midwifery.This has got to be my best book buy ever, I m an avid reader so I have a lot.of books My personal statement is now complete and sat waiting for UCAS to open, I believe it really does have everything in there that will hopefully make the admissions tutors look twice, fingers crossed One thing.BUY IT NOWBUY IT NOW..BUY IT NOW..you won t regret it Applying for and getting into midwifery is competitive and can come with brain melt moments as it means than many other careers If you want to become a midwife you ll need excellent communication skills, confidence and gravitas, reflected in a well crafted personal statement, excellent interview skills and a solid background of the role of a midwife This book is a Trojan horse I want you to focus on being yourself and with all the skills, qualities and insights you need to be a competitive candidate But actually, these things are what will make you an excellent student midwife which is why I find this work so exciting Ellie Durant s style has been called comic, easy reading and important by midwives and students and this book covers How to get qualifications, experience, volunteering and the UCAS process Personal statements, what to say and what not to say hint think not what midwifery can do for you, but what you can do for midwifery , strong examples Coping with nerves, the techniques that will help you be confident and competent during the interview process and beyond Interview questions and answers, how to prepare for Multiple Mini Interviews yes you can prepare for this new type of interview and feel much confident about what you re being asked to demonstrate How to go above and beyond in your preparation without going crazy Additional activity coaching examples and help to prepare for group interviews, presentations, literacy and maths tests Midwifery knowledge and philosophy Reading lists An amazing chapter on how to become an independent midwife in the UK by Virginia Howes a well known independent midwife, activist and author I found this book a major help, being 17 I had no hope that I would get into midwifery I tried so hard to get work experience and finally landed working at a pregnancy crisis centre Every time I said I wanted to do midwifery to someone they would always say aren t you too young why on earth would u want to do that and I also got shut down a lot by mature applicants telling me it was pot luck for midwifery and I probably wouldn t get in because I have no life experience Midwifery isn t just for mature applicants like I initially thought This book mainly helped me with my personal statement it gave a perspective on how to answer interview questions as I had no clue Anyways I ended up with 5 5 interviews and 2 offers so far on my first cycle still waiting to hear back from some I m only giving 4 stars as In all honesty I think this book is brilliant for someone who completely has no clue what so ever and has been out of education for a long while as I skipped quite a lot of the sections and I didn t think it would be worth the price as I only read 2 chapters but the info I did read was excellent.Good luck to who s ever reading this in their journey you can do it This book is out of this world I applied to university many a times before reading this book and always failed at interview However, after reading this book I got 5 5 interviews and only attended my 1st choice I received an offer for midwifery within 3 hours of interviewing I think that speaks volumes about this book. As any aspiring midwife knows, places on midwifery courses can be hard to come by as they are so competitive Ellie s book helps you to navigate the application process and to show admissions tutors the best of what you have to offer Reading this book has given me the confidence to try again, 10 years after first deciding to become a midwife This book was recommended to me from a few different people I haven t read the whole book yet as I am slowly working through it It is fantastic for me as I am just about to start college so I m not very far into my Midwifery career However, I can also see it being a fabulous book for people who are further in than me Lots of information on hundreds of different things I would recommend a million times over I wasn t expecting the book to be as thick as it is, so I m even impressed Thanks Ellie Such a helpful book The application process for midwifery is really tough and can have you feeling like you have no idea how to make yourself stand out amongst all the competition, but Ellie s book really lays out the steps clearly and gives you the confidence to succeed.I m 18 and received 5 5 interviews and 5 5 offers and honestly don t think I could have done it without the help of this book The only book you need when applying to do midwifery at university It has such detailed information that takes you right from the very beginning of the application process, all the way through to the interview stage Couldn t recommend it , I wouldn t have secured my place to study midwifery at uni without it. This book is invaluable to any passionate potential student midwife I am so pleased a local midwife recommended it when I was discussing my interest in entering the profession The book is well written and easy to follow It is filled with important information to help from the start of your application through to interviews skills, tips and techniques I now feel confident this is the right choice for me and that I can succeed Ellie thank you for writing such a useful book
